Skye is a voice-based AI maths tutor from Third Space Learning that schools buy for their pupils, while Heddy is an iPhone app that a student aged 13 or over can open on their own and that covers seven subjects, not only maths. They are both AI tutors that scaffold rather than simply solve, but they are built for different buyers, so most families will not actually be choosing between them.
Two AI tutors, two buyers. Skye details as of Sept 2026.
What Skye is, from Third Space Learning's own pages
Third Space Learning has delivered maths tutoring to schools since 2013, and Skye is its AI tutor. The company describes it as built by teachers, talking pupils through problems by voice, and grounded in a structured curriculum of teacher-designed slides using an "I do, we do, you do" approach. Its pages say Skye covers Year 3 to 6, Year 7 and GCSE maths.
On commercial terms, the pages I could read describe Skye as unlimited use for a single fixed annual fee per school, rather than per pupil or per session. As of September 2026, the company's information page gives prices from 3,500 pounds a year for primary schools and from 5,000 pounds a year for secondary schools; prices may have changed, so confirm them with the company. The same page says the company primarily serves schools rather than direct-to-consumer families, and I found no route for a parent to buy Skye for one child.
On safeguarding, the company says the connection is audio-only with no video, that Skye can show only Third Space content on the shared screen, that secondary sessions are recorded and transcribed and available to the school, and that concerns are flagged automatically for review.
What Skye does better
It is built for school delivery. Session recordings and transcripts available to the school, and a per-school fixed fee are real advantages if you are a headteacher or a maths lead. Heddy has no teacher dashboard.
Voice. Skye talks. A pupil explains their reasoning aloud and hears guidance back, which suits some children far better than typing. Heddy is text-based.
Depth in maths. It is a single-subject product backed by a company with over a decade of maths tutoring behind it. Heddy's maths tutor, Professor Pi, is one of eight.
Structure. A scaffolded curriculum of slides gives a clear path through a topic, which a free-form question-and-answer app does not.
Where Heddy is different
The buyer. Heddy opens with no account, free to start, and a student aged 13 or over can try it tonight without anyone signing a contract.
More than maths. The professors cover seven subjects, each with a method of their own.
A fixed, structural refusal. Heddy's hint ladder has four rungs, and the top one is a fully worked similar problem followed by "now redo yours". There is no rung that reveals the child's own answer.
Cards from your mistakes. Sessions become flashcards that are free and unlimited, which closes the loop from tutoring to revision.

Which to choose
Skye makes sense if you work in a school and want unlimited, teacher-built maths tutoring with records of every session.
Heddy makes sense if you are a parent or a student who wants a tutor for several subjects that you can start yourself, and a steady route from a tricky question to revision cards. For a parent, the practical answer is that Skye is not aimed at you. Heddy is on the App Store if you want to see the other approach.

Questions people ask
What is Skye from Third Space Learning?
Skye is Third Space Learning's AI maths tutor. The company describes it as voice-based, built by teachers, and covering maths from Year 3 to Year 7 and GCSE. It is sold to schools rather than to individual families.
Can parents buy Skye?
The Third Space Learning pages I could read describe Skye as priced per school on a fixed annual fee. I did not find a parent-facing purchase route, so confirm with Third Space Learning directly.
Is Heddy a maths-only tutor?
No. Heddy has a guide and seven subject professors: maths, English, biology, chemistry, physics, history and geography. Maths is handled by Professor Pi.
Do both tutors avoid giving the answer?
Both are described as scaffolding rather than simply solving. Heddy's hint ladder has no rung that reveals the answer to the child's own problem; its top rung is a worked similar problem.
